Load capability lets more transceivers on the bus
The SP1486E is a half-duplex
differential line transceiver suitable
for high-speed bi-directional
communication on multi-point bus
transmission lines.
Exar’s SP1486E offers a 1/8th-load capability,
which allows up to 256 transceivers on the
communication bus without violating the
PROFIBUS specification. This supports high-density
industrial control networks.
Further advanced features offer design
versatility and robustness for factory
applications. The hot-swap capability,
for example, avoids shutting down
the entire system for each board
insertion and extraction. Advanced fail-safe
protection minimises noise and
parasitic coupling, and can prevent the
CMOS inputs from drifting to improper logic
levels when the receiver inputs are floating,
shorted or open. The device also complies
with TIA/EIA-485, TIA/EIA-422 and the
IEC61000-4-2 15kV air-gap, and 8kV contact-discharge
standards.
The transceiver features a 2.7V differential
output voltage that allows robust data
transmission over longer distances than
standard RS-485 transceivers. Additionally,
the SP1486E provides a 20Mbit/s data rate
and is offered in an 8-pin narrow SOIC for
use in industrial and extended temperature
ranges.
