Ethernet PHY enhances power and ESD rating
Micrel’s KSZ8041NL is a single-supply
10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet PHY,
which provides Media Independent
Interface (MII) and Reduced MII
interfaces to transmit and receive data.
The KSZ8041NL Fast Ethernet transceiver
combines low power consumption of 150mW and
ESD ratings of 6kV, exceeding ESD requirements
for most industrial applications.
The mixed-signal design extends signalling
distance while reducing power consumption. By
implementing HP Auto-MDI/MDI-X, the PHY also
provides a highly robust solution for eliminating
the need to differentiate between crossover and
straight-through cables.
This combination of features means that the
chip is ideal for applications where PCB space is at
a premium, where low power is important, and
where stringent ESD conditions apply such as in
industrial Ethernet environments.
This sixth-generation low-cost, low-power PHY
comes in a 5mm x 5mm QFN
package. With a small footprint
and low bill-of-materials cost, the
KSZ8041NL supports the rapid
and seamless spread of Ethernet
connectivity.
