All you need for license-free ZigBee™ development

Microchip has entered the low-data-rate wireless communications space, with a 2.4GHz IEEE802.15.4 transceiver, license-free protocols and a wireless-network analyser tool to streamline design with ZigBee or proprietary protocols.

At the core of this development platform, the MRF24J40 transceiver integrates an IEEE802.15.4 radio plus PHY and MAC layers, and provides an SPI port for host-controller communications. There is also an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware encryption engine to support robust security features.

A ZigBee™-compliant stack is provided at no charge on a royalty-free basis, with added benefits including a small footprint and customisable source code. As a certification-free alternative to ZigBee, the Microchip MiWi™ protocol stack provides a fast and efficient solution for building low-cost peer-to-peer, star and mesh networks.

The ZENA wireless network analyser tool, also included, enables easy configuration of ZigBee or MiWi protocols using a convenient graphical interface. This allows developers to reduce code size and cut development time while also ensuring that all functional requirements are met.
