Ambient-light sensor closer to human-eye response for better comfort and economy
Vishay has perfected an infrared-filtering
epoxy technology, which enables its
TEMD6200FX01 ambient-light sensor to
match the spectral sensitivity of the
human eye and minimise sensitivity
beyond the visible range.
The TEMD6200FX01 is a surface-mount device
with industry-standard 0805 dimensions and a
low package height of 0.85mm. The miniature
flat plastic package contains a high-speed,
high-sensitivity PIN photodiode. Using a
straightforward 2-pin connection to the host
system, the sensor enhances both energy
efficiency and operator comfort by allowing
keypad or LCD-backlight intensity to be
optimised automatically. The TEMD6200FX01 is
also qualified to AEC-Q100, and is used in
automotive systems such as automatic
headlight control, and tunnel sensors.
As well as its applications in light-level
sensing the TEMD6200FX01 can also be used
as an environmentally-friendly alternative to
cadmium-based photo resistors, which are
banned under RoHS legislation.
