Motion starter kit adds movement sensing to fast-start SoC-design tool

The Cypress Semiconductor CY3271-EXP2 motion-sensing kit delivers a fast-start for designers using Cypress PSoC® devices to overcome sensor-interfacing challenges.

Cypress’s PSoC programmable system-on-chip technology provides powerful digital and analogue blocks that allow quick configuration of sensor interfaces using functions such as counters, PWMs, amplifiers, filters, ADCs, and DACs. These modules can be implemented as required, which means the user only has to select a PSoC device with the required amount of programme memory before building the design using PSoC configuration tools.

Adding to the speed and flexibility of sensorinterface design using PSoC, the CY3271-EXP2 motion-sensing Kit now expands the capabilities of the CY3271 PSoC FirstTouch™ Starter kit featuring CyFi low-power RF. The kit includes three boards enabling designers to evaluate a gyroscope sensor with X-Y measurement to detect angular velocity, a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor that detects motion and direction, and an ultrasonic sensor enabling measurement in inches or centimetres for obstacle detection. All three boards can be used without a PC, with LEDs providing visual feedback.

When used in conjunction with the Sense and Control Dashboard (SCD) from the CY3271 FirstTouch Starter kit, the new motion-sensing kit allows users to set up and monitor a wired or wireless sensor network quickly through an intuitive visual dashboard. This allows easy demonstration of features such as data logging, data aggregation, alarms and sensors.
