First Optimised Power Modules for Switched-Reluctance Motors Deliver 40% Footprint Saving
The industry’s first power modules
optimised for two-phase Switched-Reluctance Motors (SRM) allow 40%
smallermotor drives for use in industrial
automation and small vehicles.
The Fairchild Semiconductor FCAS20DN60BB
and FCAS30DN60BB are 20A and 30Amodules
integrating all necessary power components in a
45mmx 28mmSIP package. This allows the motor
drive to be incorporated within the SRM assembly
for improved design productivity and ease of
manufacturing, as well as smaller size.
Both modules contain four IGBTs and their
drivers, four fast-recovery diodes, two bootstrap
diodes and a thermistor. There is also a high-speed
built-in High-Voltage IC (HVIC), which contributes
to size savings by providing an
optocoupler-less IGBT gate driving
capability. The integrated HVIC
further simplifies motor-drive
design by allowing a single-grounded
power supply to be used.
With low-loss IGBTs matched to
optimised protection and drive
circuitry, on-chip system-control
functions, and all components fully
tested, high reliability is assured.
Under-Voltage Lock-out (UVLO) and
short-circuit protection are also
provided. The low thermal
resistance and integrated heat
spreader of the thermally-enhanced
package also help to
boost the reliability of these
modules.
