All-in-One BLDC-Motor Controller Adds Smart Features, Cuts Design Time
As an easy-to-use integrated solution
for motor control, the AH5792 from
Diodes Incorporated includes a Hall
sensor and amplifier, a full-bridge
output driver, and on-chip digital
control with value-added features
including locked-rotor protection.
With its bi-directional H-bridge output stage,
the AH5792 provides a simple solution for low-power
single-phase, full-wave Brushless DC
(BLDC) motor control. The Hall sensor element
is located in the centre of the 0.6mm-high,
small-outline SOT553 package, which can be
built into miniature systems such as ultra-thin
cooling fans. These types of applications will
also benefit from the AH5792’s low-voltage
start-up capability.
The embedded digital controller eliminates
the need for external components including a
timing capacitor. Built-in features include
locked-rotor detection with automatic selfrestart.
This shuts down the output driver in the
event of a locked rotor and then restarts the
motor when the rotor is freed. The frequency-generator
output produces a tachometer-like
signal that can be easily connected
to external speed-monitoring hardware.
