Miniature Boost Regulators Combine High-Power

Combining an integrated 40V/1.2A switch and 2mm x 2mm MLF® package, Micrel’s MIC2601 and MIC2602 boost-mode switching regulators deliver large-load capability within minimal board space.

Fixed-frequency current-mode PWM control at 1.2MHz for the MIC2601 and 2MHz for the MIC2602 allows small external components, which contributes to the high-power density. Stable operation is achieved with small ceramic capacitors, and internal compensation circuitry saves additional board space by reducing overall parts count. The compensation provided ensures fast transient response and tight output regulation. A Soft-start pin with an internal 15kΩ resistor allows engineers to programme inrush current using a single external capacitor. Both regulators also have an external Enable pin to put the device into a sub-10µA shutdown mode, allowing an energy-efficient and space-saving solution.
