Versatile 125Msample/s DAC Supports Multiple Configurations
The NXP Semiconductors DAC1401D125
is a dual 14-bit DAC that can be used
in either I/Q baseband or direct-IF
communications applications, due to
its 125Msample/s update rate, low
distortion, tight gain matching and
low offset error.
The DAC1401D125 has 1.8V-, 3.3V- and 5V compatible
digital inputs allowing easy
integration, and supports a number of input and
output configurations to fulfil versatile functions.
A Mode pin allows a choice of two data-input
configurations: Dual-bus mode allows interfacing
to two separate data ports, with an independent
data input, clock input, and data-write signal to
each DAC. In single-bus mode the device
connects to a single high-speed data port, and
demultiplexes interleaved data into the original I
and Q components. It then converts and uploads
at half the input rate.
The output full-scale current can be
adjusted from 2mA to 20mA to optimise
for high dynamic range or low power
consumption. The current limit can be set for
one or both channels simultaneously using
one external resistor, or independently using
two resistors. Multiple output configurations
are supported, including differential coupling
with an output transformer or operational
amplifier, or single-ended buffered or
unbuffered voltage output.
