Low-Power DSCs Cut the Cost of Digital Control
The 16-bit 56F8002 and 56F8006 DSCs
from Freescale Semiconductor enable
low-cost entry to digital control for
motor drives and power supplies, with
the advantage of compatibility across
the 56F8000-family platform.
The lower-cost devices, in smaller packages,
target price-sensitive applications, and
integrate analogue modules, timers and
serial-communications modules as well as
embedded SRAM and up to 16kbytes of
Flash.
Essential motor-control IP is also provided,
including PWM timers, two high-speed
12-channel, 12-bit ADCs supported by
Programmable Gain Amplifiers (PGA), and a
programmable delay timer to reduce interrupt
overhead when sampling via the ADC. This
combination delivers an effective low-cost
solution for controlling single-phase or three-phase
motors.
The 56F8002/6 also
benefit from Freescale’s
industry-leading low-power
platform-design
methodology and IP to
ensure the lowest power
consumption in all modes.
On-chip there is a low-power
0.9V oscillator, as well
as a voltage regulator with
fast wake-up. Clock gating
can also be implemented
to switch the clock off to
unused peripherals.
