1Mbit Non-Volatile RAM Lowers Voltage and Increases Performance
The FM25V10 is a Ferroelectric Random
Access Memory (F-RAM) designed to
offer high-speed read and write
performance, with low-voltage
operation and other features.
This performance is being offered with a
memory density of 1Mbit, enabled by
Ramtron’s high-density F-RAM
manufacturing process.
Operating from 2V to 3.6V, the FM25V10 is
a non-volatile, SPI-based RAM which features
fast access, NoDelay™ writes, 1014 read or
write cycles, and low power consumption. It
can therefore be considered as an upgrade
to 1Mbit serial Flash and serial EEPROM
memories.
Unlike serial Flash memory or serial
EEPROM, the FM25V10 performs write
operations at bus speed without write
delays. Compared to serial Flash and serial
EEPROM, the FM25V10 also offers more than
eight orders of magnitude more endurance,
and consumes less than one-tenth of the
active power.
The FM25V10 is the first in Ramtron’s
V-Family of F-RAM products. These memory
devices integrate features designed to
reduce board space as well as assembly and
device costs. The FM25V10 has a read-only
device ID, and can be provided with a
unique serial number and system-reset
option. The device ID provides information
about the manufacturer, product density and
product revision of the device.
The FM25V10 operates over the industrial
temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, and
consumes only 3mA while running at a
40MHz SPI clock rate. It consumes just 90mA
during standby and 5mA during sleep mode.
The FM25V10 offers an active power consumption
of 38mA per MHz, which is significantly lower than
comparable serial Flash or EEPROM products.
Ramtron also offer a 512kbit F-RAM, the
FM25V05, and have road-mapped versions with
SPI, I2C and parallel interfaces.
