Digital Controllers Deliver Efficient Point-of-Load Power Conversion
The FD200x digital power controllers
combine digital loop control with
highly-integrated power-management
capabilities to offer efficient power
delivery from light to full load.
Incorporating an innovative Digital-DC™
power conversion architecture, these
products dynamically optimise efficiency as
system-conditions change.The FD2004,
FD2004-01 and FD2006 digital power
controllers, and the FD1505 driver, form
universal power building blocks.
The controllers operate with a wide input-voltage
range from as low as 3.0V and up to
14V and control output voltages as low as
0.54V and as high as 5.5V.
The FD2004 controller can interface with
an external driver, MOSFET ICs and powertrain
modules to provide power-stage design
flexibility. The FD2004-01 provides similar
functionality but with DC output voltage set-point
accuracy of ±0.2%.
The FD2006, however, integrates a controller
with 3A MOSFET drivers, and can support
loads in excess of 40A without an external
driver.
These products deliver accurate power
with the ever-increasing voltage-regulation
accuracy required by the latest embedded
processors and ASICs. All of these controllers
include on-board serial ports compliant with
I2C and SMBus, and support the industry-standard
PMBus™ command set.
The FD1505 is an N-channel synchronous-buck
MOSFET driver specifically designed for
use with the FD2004 and FD2004-01. The
FD1505 has dual PWM inputs that take
advantage of the dynamic dead-time
optimisation provided by the controllers to
maximise power-conversion efficiency. The
device combines +5A/-4A low-side drive
with ±3A high-side drive and up to 7.5V gate
drive to enable efficient operation at high
step-down ratios and switching frequencies.
The FD1505 also provides an adjustable
gate-drive current feature, which allows
configurations that provide 50% or 100% of
the full rated drive current.
