Storage processors integrate state-of-the-art interfaces
Freescale Semiconductor has expanded
its PowerQUICC® II Pro range by adding
devices that are optimised for high-performance
storage and printing
applications.
The MPC8315E integrates SATA, PCI Express and
USB with PHY interfaces to support SOHO and
consumer Network Attached Storage (NAS) and
digital media server applications. RAID 0 (striping)
and RAID 1 (mirrored) operation are supported by
an integrated XOR accelerator. The MPC8314E is a
cost-reduced variant, without SATA, targeted at
residential gateways, WLAN access points, printers
and industrial controls. These are also Freescale’s
lowest-cost processors to feature integrated PCI
Express, supporting dual single-lane PCI Express
1.0a interfaces each operating at 250Mbyte/s
bi-directional speeds.
The MPC8379E, MPC8378E and MPC8377E for
small-to-medium business applications support
RAID level 5 configurations and provide multiple
high-speed interfaces.
The MPC8379E integrates four SATA interfaces to
reduce part-count and cost in four-drive NAS
systems.
The MPC8378E provides dual PCI Express and
SGMII interfaces and is targeted at the wireless
access point market. The MPC8377E provides two
SATA and two PCI Express interfaces for next-generation
multi-function printers.
